Zia has continued its operations uninterrupted throughout the shutdown of Philadelphia public schools due to Covid-19. Our volunteers are able to deliver nutritious food weekly in a safe, socially-distanced manner. Now, more than ever, our member families face even greater food insecurity and your donations are invaluable.
Zia is staffed by generous and caring volunteers who ensure our programs run
smoothly and provide nutritious and delicious food to Philadelphia schoolchildren. Head to our Contact Us page if you wish to volunteer, donate or partner with Zia, Inc.
Zia was started in 2015 when its founder partnered with a local elementary
school to cook for families in need. Zia has expanded to opening a food pantry in
that same school, providing 8-10 meals a month to almost forty member families.
Children who face food insecurity do not perform as well in school as their food-
secure counterparts. Zia (which means “auntie” in Italian) is a charitable
organization that aims to combat the food insecurity of children in an urban
educational setting so they have even more tools to get a great education,
launching them into successful and happy lives.
Your support and contributions will enable us to meet our goals and improve conditions. Your generous donation will fund our mission.
